I began my 11th school year of storytelling in Jeffco and Denver classrooms by telling from one of my all time favorites - Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O Dell, a Newberry Award Winner in 1961. This is an amazing story of survival, loss, and the life-changing companionship of a dog friend. This one is especially easy and satisfying for me to tell, because of my own relations to animals for most of my life.
