25 January ~2014

The facilitator in an Environmental Education class I attended five or six years ago asked the attendees how they first got interested in nature. His point was that most people who have a livelong love of nature usually encountered it in a personal way when they were young. When my time to speak came I explained that when I was a teenager I wandered in the fields and mountains near my home with my dog. I said there was no doubt that beauty and wildness made a deep impression in my heart, and the difference between then and now is that now I wander with two dogs.

Later it became four border collies, and now three.

The last 13 years with Ben have been good beyond measure, the best of my life. In his honor I expect the next 10 or more to be equally as good, with Maggie and Mollie and Hayley.
